Educator: I am Dr. Gethsemane Moss, and I have over 24 years of dedicated service in
education. I grew up in Vallejo, and I am proud to continue serving as Director of Learning.
I began my educational career as a theater instructor for students ages 6-17 for a local
community summer program. I was recruited by the Vallejo City Unified School District,
teaching 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th grade. I served as a school site administrator for both middle and
high school, gaining expertise at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. With hard work
and dedication, I earned my way to the Solano County Office of Education.
During my seven years at the Solano County Office of Education, I served as Senior Director of
Community Engagement, Public Information Officer, Webmaster, Social Media Manager, the
Williams Legislature lead manager, managed all internal and extremal communications and
special events. Before serving as Senior Director, I served as Program Manager of Instructional
Support and Professional Development and Director of Educational Services, overseeing all
areas of technical assistance and support services and professional development for all school
districts in Solano County. As the Director of Educational Services, I managed and facilitated the
Curriculum Council, the Mentor/Intern Program, supporting new teachers and new
administrators to clear their teaching and administrative services credentials. I was also the
county lead for the Visual and Performing Arts Council, the Afterschool Program Network, the
English Learner Consortium, the Solano County Equity Network, to name a few.
In addition, I served as the lead and the appointed administrator in ongoing collaboration with
the California Department of Education, The Bilingual Coordinators Network Title III, Region 4
Afterschool Program Network, in partnership with The Alameda County Office of Education,
county lead for the California County Superintendent’s Education Services Association Arts
Initiative and much more.
I have always been an advocate for technology and the integration of arts in education. I was
instrumental in securing over $100,000.00 in grant funding to provide Professional Development
for Solano County Educators and community artists and a professional development series on
helping school leaders develop robust curriculum arts plans for school districts.
Academic Achievement: I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in
Psychology from Howard University, a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in Educational
Leadership from Chapman University, a multiple subject teaching credential from Dominican
University, and a Doctorate of Education from Grand Canyon University, where I studied
Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Organizational Development which leads to my
first published book, The Lived Experiences of African American Women Superintendents in
California K-12 Public Schools.
I am also a certified life coach through the John Maxwell Group and a certified coach under the
Association of California School Administrators and the New Teacher. I happily serve on a local
school board and served eight years as a commissioner for the Benicia Arts and Culture
Commission. I am a contributing writer for a local magazine.
I want every student to know what success means to them as individuals. With the proper
foundation and access to every possible opportunity, students will thrive and successfully
graduate with a plan for the next important journey of their lives.
I have built significant relationships and networks over the years, both locally and nationally,
because I belong to several community-based organizations and am a long-time resident of
Solano County. I look forward to working with our school board, staff, students, and the Vallejo
community and building partnerships that will continue to support our students and families.
